Our community is where the magic happens

Whether you’re a collaborator, volunteer, fashion lover, or just here for some new-to-you clothes – you belong.

The Big Swap is more than a clothing exchange; it’s a movement powered by people who believe in a fair, inclusive future. We help each other make simple wardrobe tweaks that build confidence, friendships, and resilience. Whether you’re passionate about slow fashion or just discovering it, your contributions – big or small – shape what we do.

From partners and volunteers to schools, workplaces, and our online supporters, everyone plays a role. Together, we’re creating something bigger than sustainable fashion choices, an inspired, connected and empowered community.

We are continually driven by the people who represent The Big Swap.

LDray joined our team as Swap Curator July 2023 after becoming hooked as a swapper. Keen to support sustainability and connect with new people, she now volunteers across multiple roles. As a plus-size woman, she found clothes shopping discouraging, but swapping has helped her rediscover fashion in a fun and empowering way. “It’s given me the chance to experiment with style without the financial pressure—trying different things instead of feeling down.”

“Being a disabled girl and a wheelchair user, going to an event that is a safe space and includes, is just the most incredible thing. Since I started volunteering, I feel like it’s welcomed more of the disabled community, which is really nice to see.”

Beyond fashion, volunteering has had a profound personal impact. As a wheelchair user, she values The Big Swap as a safe, inclusive space and has seen more disabled people get involved since she started. “It’s incredible to be part of something that welcomes everyone.” The experience has also shifted her mindset on consumption – she now values more staple, long-lasting pieces over fast fashion and appreciates the sense of community in passing clothes on. Volunteering has even helped her manage anxiety, especially through her front desk role, where she’s gained confidence in meeting new people.

“As a plus-size girly… it can be quite traumatising going to an ordinary shop and trying to get clothes or finding styles that work. Swaps have really helped me restyle myself, figure out what I like, and have fun with clothes instead of feeling down.”

Her advice for those new to sustainable fashion? “Small steps make a big difference. The Big Swap is more than just swapping clothes—it’s a family gathering, a movement where everyone belongs.”
